Our summer biking destination! Start at the Hay Creek Trail on Pioneer Rd. and peddle your way through flora and fauna on a nice paved path. Then it's a rest on their outdoor patio with a beer in hand. The food is excellent and the service is always welcoming and friendly.

We stayed at hay creek this past weekend.my husband and I had our travel trailer and our daughter and son-in-law were in tent. They both experienced extremely rude behavior, from "permanent"residents, in the ridiculously planned, so-called bathroom/shower area.we found it impossible to believe, that there was ONE toilet, ONE sink, and ONE shower, for women,;'same for men! Unbelievable!! AND, sign on each door:do not lock door--as you kidding me?!! This is ridiculous!--very poor plan, and a negative review for this issue alone--

If you find yourself out wandering south of Red Wing and get a hankering for some food, pass right by this 'Old Western Saloon'. The service was prompt and friendly but the place is kind of a dive (not in a good way) and being part of a campground has a tacky, touristy feel to it. That isn't to say there is anything offensive about it. I had a mushroom and swiss burger with fries and a bud light for eight bucks. As it turns out, bud light was the perfect beer pairing for my meal. Cold, convenience store hamburger bun, mushrooms from a can, rubbery 'swiss' cheese, and a flavorless patty, served with unseasoned fries and translucent pickles. It was all a bit lacking in flavor. I doused the fries in salt, smeared mustard and ketchup on the burger, and made the best of it. My grandma sometimes complains that food doesn't really taste like anything anymore, and having eaten at Hay Creek, I can now empathize.

We had a great stay this past weekend at Hay Creek Valley Campground. The staff and campers with seasonal sites were so friendly and made you feel so welcomed. We enjoyed biking the trails to Redwing, the outdoor heated pool, fishing in the trout stream and the DJ Saturday night. They had a theme night called the Haycreek prom going on....lots of people dressed up and had a great time. We have already booked a campsite to return next summer!

Whenever I try a new campground I like to look online for other reviews first. Since the only review for this place was solely based on a burger and not the campground itself, I felt obligated to review my experience. After all, when you saw the thumbnail for this place, the first thing you read was "Campground" not restaurant, right?! I traveled with 3 family members (we had 2 camper trailers) - all adults - and checked in late on a Friday evening. The "saloon" is also the office - it felt a little funny walking up to the bar for your camping reservation, but the woman working behind the counter was extremely friendly and we were soon smiling at the novelty of the whole thing. She was also very helpful about explaining the events they had taking place that weekend (including a horseshoe tournament), and we were able to see that they had a number of supplies for anyone who may have forgotten an extension cord or other basic hookup. We stayed up on the hill and were pretty pleased with the atmosphere - people were friendly and said hello, and just generally made you feel welcomed, which is always a nice bonus. We did have one meal in the saloon and it was fine - typical bar-type food. Hot dogs, burgers, onion rings, cheese curds, etc. We didn't dine for gourmet - we dined so that we could not cook for one meal and enjoy a few air-conditioned beers instead. :) It is a little dive-like inside, but in my opinion a dive is good or bad based on the people inside. In this case everyone was friendly and relaxed, so overall it was a great experience. Combine that with the fact that it's adjacent to some fantastic park trails in scenic Red Wing and you've got a campground worth checking out.

Nice campground, great scenic location. Caters to RV crowd but there are a few decent tent sites near the creek. Bar/restaurant has a good vibe and would recommend for beers but food was less than desirable. If you want to eat out, drive to Red Wing. Recommended outdoor activities nearby: 1) Good biking trail that starts just yards from the campground and will take you into Red Wing. Also check out Cannon Valley trail nearby. 2) Trout stream with fishing holes right in the campground. 3) Rock climbing at Barn Bluff and good variety of hiking trails in the area. 4) Kayaking/tubing/fishing Cannon River. 5) Fishing/boating Mississippi River.
